I love vodka. Let's just start off there. Vodka + soda is my drink of choice!
My Mom and I love to try new vodkas, and for Mother's Day last year, I got her a bottle of Ocean Vodka, which is made from organic sugar cane. It became a fast favorite, so when we were in Maui, we knew we had to stop by their organic farm and distillery.

It was even better than I thought it would be. Located on 80 acres of slopes, the farm has great visibility of the island in all directions. (Although it was of course overcast when we went up! But here are some lovely shots from their website.)
Hawaii Sea Spirits Organic Farm and Distillery prides itself on sustainability and is extremely environmentally conscious. Solar panels power production and because of the rich soil they do not use pesticides. They also manufacture Deep Island Hawaiian Rum here, which is sadly not yet on the mainland, but keep your eye out because it is also DELICIOUS.
We witnessed the production from start to finish, but the bottling was my favorite part. These bottles are designed to mimic the angle of the Earth's axis and have glass that looks like old fishing globes. I love details like that.
There is even a small tasting at the end of the tour-- of both the rum and vodka. Our tour guide did an excellent job talking to us about what features to look for in the tasting. And don't worry, baby Kit stayed with Grandpa during that part.
